Prescriptions
Ordering repeat prescriptions
Repeat prescriptions can be ordered via:
- our automated prescription telephone line
- the online system Patient Access
- hand in your paper repeat slip to the Practice
Our automated telephone messaging system is available between 8.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday for requesting medication. Please call the surgery number and press the relevant option when prompted. Please state clearly your name, date of birth, your nominated pharmacy and all the names and strengths of the medication you require.
If you are not currently registered for the online Patient Access system and would like to use this in future, please contact our reception team and they will be happy to assist you.
Collecting your prescription
Please allow three working days for the Practice to process your prescription request. To help streamline collection, we recommend nominating a Community Pharmacy where you'd like your prescriptions to be sent.
The following pharmacies regularly collect prescriptions on behalf of patients from Callander Medical Practice:
-
Farrens Pharmacy, Callander
-
Trossachs Pharmacy, Callander
-
Woodside Pharmacy, Doune
Please note: While we aim to process prescriptions promptly, we cannot guarantee they will be ready for collection at your chosen pharmacy within three working days. This depends on pharmacy stock levels and demand, which are outside the Practice’s control.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Questions about your prescription
Need Help with Your Medicines?
Your local Community Pharmacy is a great first point of contact for questions about your medications. They can often provide quick advice without the need for an appointment.
If your pharmacy is unable to assist, our reception team may direct your enquiry to our Practice Pharmacist. These highly trained professionals are employed by NHS Forth Valley and are based within GP practices. They can support with medication reviews and prescribing. They're here to help ensure your medicines are safe, effective, and tailored to your needs.
The NHS website also has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
Medication reviews
Some medications require regular monitoring to ensure they remain safe and effective. If you're due for a review, our reception team will contact you to arrange an appointment.
Alternatively, our pharmacist may attach a note to your prescription with instructions on how to book your review and who it should be with. Please keep an eye out and follow up promptly to help us support your ongoing care.
What to do with old medicines
Please never dispose of medicines in your household waste bin. Unused or expired medications should be returned to your local Community Pharmacy for safe and appropriate disposal.
Sharps products (such as needles or lancets) must be placed in a proper sharps bin. When your bin is full, seal it securely following the instructions and return it to the Practice or your Community Pharmacy. We’re happy to provide a replacement sharps bin when a full one is returned.
Thank you for helping keep our community safe.
Pharmacy First
NHS Pharmacy First Scotland is available from all pharmacies in Scotland that dispense NHS prescriptions. You can choose which pharmacy to use and in most cases, you don’t have to make an appointment. Most community pharmacies offer a consultation area or room if you want to speak to the pharmacist in private.
The pharmacist, or a member of their team, can:
- discuss your symptoms
- give you advice on your condition
- provide medication (if required)
- refer you to another healthcare professional (for example, your GP) if they think this is necessary
Please visit NHS Inform Pharmacy First Service for more information.
