Registering with a GP practice

To register permanently, you’ll need to complete a registration form. You can either:

You can also use Access to Healthcare. This is a GP registration card to help you register with a GP Practice. The card gives information on your rights to accessing healthcare. You can find the card on the Health Literacy Place website. Anybody in Scotland can access primary care services at a GP practice without charge.

Due to the volume of new patient registrations we receive, we do kindly ask that patient's allow 7 days before making an appointment or requesting routine medication. This provides time for our team to review and complete your registration. However, if you require urgent medical attention during this time, please do contact the Practice team by telephone and they will be happy to advise you.

Registering as a Temporary Resident

You can only register permanently with a GP practice if you’re staying in the area for more than 3 months. If you’re not, you may still be treated but as a Temporary Resident.

Callander is a popular destination for tourists and we receive a large volume of requests to treat temporary patients. While we do endeavour to facilitate urgent requests, there may be times where we are unable to help due to demand on our services.

If you are visiting the area and require medical care, please help us manage demand on our team by using the most appropriate service for your needs:

  • In the event of a life-threatening emergency, please call 999 immediately

  • If you require an emergency supply of your prescribed medicines or advice on symptoms covered under the Pharmacy First Service, please visit a local community pharmacy.

  • If you have injured yourself, and this is not immediately life threatening, the Minor Injuries Unit is likely best placed to treat you. Based in Stirling Health and Care Village, the unit provides advice and treatment for a wide range of injuries. It can treat adults and children over the age of 1, from across the Forth Valley area and is open 9am - 9pm, 7 days a week (including public holidays).  To access this service as quickly as possible, please call NHS 24 on 111 first before you attend.

  • If you are experiencing a Dental Emergency, such as acute dental pain, swelling or trauma/bleeding from the mouth, please call NHS24 on 111

  • The nearest Emergency Department is located in Larbert, Falkirk. Please only attend the Emergency Department if you require emergency medical care for significant injuries or pain. If you are unsure whether the Emergency Department is the most suitable place for you, please call NHS 24 on 111 for further advice.

Veterans

If you have served in the armed forces, you may be entitled to healthcare support as a veteran. This includes people who have served as a regular and those who have been reservists.

We strongly encourage new patients to declare their service in the relevant section of our registration form, and provide details of any medical conditions acquired as a direct result of your service. This helps our team ensure you receive the treatment you are entitled to, as set out by The Armed Forces Covenant.

As a participating Practice in the Armed Forces and Veterans Recognition Scheme, some members of our team have undergone additional training to better understand the health impact of military life on the Armed Forces and Veteran community.

To learn more about treatment you may be entitled to, or additional resources for veterans, please visit Health rights for veterans
